Sombrero-making is the main industry of Jaracuaro, an island village on the lake of Patzcuaro. Here is a whole family at work. From left to right, wife, husband, husband's father. There are two children working elsewhere. On a good day, this family may make three sombreros. With electric power, now being introduced with the help of CREFAL - but largely through the labour of the villagers themselves - they could double their output.
