This film documents the Tungabhadra Dam project, built at Malappuram near Hospet to irrigate the arid lands of Hyderabad, Andhra, and Mysore states in South India. Completed in 1953, the masonry structure spans over 1,800 meters and includes two main canals designed to irrigate more than 800,000 acres and generate hydroelectric power. The film highlights technical features such as aqueducts, tunnels, and spillway gates, as well as the inter-state cooperation that made the project possible. Irrigation quickly transformed the region, boosting agricultural output and ending recurring famines.
